Uganda Medical Team Stories
There are many stories to tell which demonstrate God’s amazing grace and sovereignty here at the clinic:
There was a little boy the team sent to Kampala to see specialists to remove a large cancerous tumor from his mouth. He and his mother were escorted to Kampala by one of our local church members. This was very literally the difference between life and death for this little boy. The surgery and comprehensive treatment expenses didn’t exceed a thousand dollars, but this was far beyond the families’ reach.
There was another young man who had to be carried into the clinic, he couldn't move his mouth, etc. The docs theorized that he had been misdiagnosed with malaria at a local clinic and was treated several times for the wrong ailment. He also had not eaten for three days and was severely dehydrated. Upon completion of the medical team’s treatment, the man walked away very happily on his own strength.
Others had severe infections that had gone untreated for weeks or months and were spreading to other parts of their bodies. Now they are receiving treatment that should completely eliminate the infection! It's amazing to see these 'ministers of common grace' producing such wonderful results, even when there are others who cannot be helped. The team worked very hard to serve the Lord and the people of Nagongera this past week; they should be encouraged by all the fruits of their labor.
The team has helped so many people, but they had one very heartbreaking experience. A little four month-old baby was brought in with a severe case of malaria. He was 'septic' when he arrived, which means he had gone into shock. The doctors and nurses worked very hard to save him, but unfortunately the baby died overnight.
That kind of thing happens very frequently in Uganda and even our American doctors and nurses are used to seeing patients die sometimes, but it was still very heartbreaking. The team handled the situation with grace, confident that the Lord is sovereign and He ordained who they would see as well as the results of their treatment.
